AUGUST/SEPTEMBER:

Our Summer 2013

Teacher Training Class

This August 21-25, thirteen amazing yogis participated in our 40-hour Y.O.G.A. for Youth Teacher Training– the fourth training held in North Carolina over the past six years.  Co-taught by Y.O.G.A. for Youth Founder Krishna Kaur from Los Angeles and Y.O.G.A. for Youth Regional Coordinator Keval Kaur Khalsa, participants focused on subjects ranging from the importance of your own personal practice as a teacher, to creating sacred space in the classroom and the effects of trauma on young people.  Keval Kaur Khalsa had this to say about the training: “I feel profound gratitude for the level of expertise and commitment present in our 2013 Teacher Training graduates.  They are clearly dedicated to serving our young people, and I’ve no doubt they will help us realize our vision of growing Y.O.G.A. for Youth’s capacity to serve in the Triangle and in the South.”  The yogis in this training were not only from all over the Triangle, but as far away as Atlanta, GA and Memphis, TN!

“The Y.O.G.A. for Youth teacher training exceeded my expectations on every level. Our instructors, Kirshna Kaur and Keval Kaur each brought their unique wisdom, insight and enthusiasm into every class… I came away with a greater understanding of myself, both my strength and areas I need to work on so that I can bring 100 percent of my “true self” any Y.O.G.A. for Youth class I am lucky enough to be a part of!”

– Courtney

“I cried and broke through major resistances I had as a result of my own childhood trauma. The teachers and students gave me incredible strength and by the end of the training I was smiling and felt major grief lifted from my heart.” – Pavanpreet

“I felt so inspired by the presence and contributions of everyone in our class.  It gave me the strength to invite in change and to emerge from my ‘small self.’  The training reinvigorated my personal practice and empowered me to become a better teacher.” – Jordan

“The YOGA for YOUTH training in NC far exceeded my expectations! The teachers were outstanding, the students amazing, and the hands-on approach to the course material made learning fun…  The certification course has given me the confidence to continue my life’s mission: to bring yoga and mindfulness to at-risk teens in our local communities.” – Julie

The ten graduates who are local to the Triangle will be busy right away, as they join the Y.O.G.A. for Youth team working with Communities In Schools of Orange County, and the programming with the Durham Crisis Response Center.
